Volunteer Overview

Does your pet love people? Are they friendly with strangers, confident in new situations, obedient and love to be the center of attention?

Then we are looking for you!!

Chimo AAT certifies dogs, cats, birds, rabbits and mini-horses as therapy animals to volunteer at our affiliated facilities.

How do I get my animal certified?

In order to be certified, all animals must pass the same requirements:

  • obedience test
  • temperament test
  • health check

Animal handlers must also attend a volunteer handler orientation session to learn how to handle their animal in therapy sessions.

How do I become a volunteer with my pet?

  • Complete the volunteer forms on the website and submit them to Chimo AAT.
  • Certify your pet as a therapy animal.
  • Attend a Chimo AAT volunteer orientation session.
  • Complete a criminal record check, and child welfare check (if applicable).
  • Attend the facility orientation session (of your chosen placement).

While Chimo AAT appreciates anyone willing to volunteer, we are currently looking for folks able to volunteer during week days.

Do you not have a pet, or is your pet too young/old/shy, that’s okay too!  We’re also looking for volunteers to help us coordinate and run events.

How do I become a volunteer without a pet?

  • Complete the volunteer forms on our website and submit them to Chimo AAT.
  • Attend a Chimo AAT volunteer orientation session.
  • Complete a criminal record check.
  • Start volunteering!
