This page is dedicated to Toby, a beautiful Chesepeake Bay Retreiver who, with the help of his loving owners Charmaine and Chris, overcame many struggles to provide unconditional love and kindess to those around him.

Toby began volunteering for Chimo AAT with his owner Charmaine Hammond in 2007. Toby and Charmaine dedicated four years to volunteering with Chimo AAT at Alberta Hospital Edmonton. Toby was loved by every person he worked with and inspired patients and staff alike with his boundless joy and unending empathy. Sadly, in 2011 Toby passed away due to natuaral causes at the age of 10.

Through the literary talents of his dedicated owner Charmaine, Toby has been featured in various publications including, Chicken Soup for the Soul “What I Learned from the Dog”, published in 2009, and even his own novel “On Toby’s Terms”, published in 2010 and scheduled to become a major Hollywood motion picture in 2012. Charmaine has also written a children’s series insired by Toby including, “Toby the Pet Therapy Dog & His Hospital Friends” bublished in 2011.

Charmaine, along with her husband Chris, continue to keep Toby’s legacy alive. In 2012 Charmaine worked in conjuction with Chimo AAT to create the new “Toby Kindness Award”, which will be awarded annually to an AAT animal following in Toby’s footsteps and forwarding his kindess mission.
